On March 13th, 2013, New Diaspora was launched as a web documentary movement, focusing on the new generation of Greeks living abroad during the crisis in their homeland.

Why did we leave? How much have we adapted to our new lives? What’s our point of view on the developments in Greece? Will we ever go back? Do we want to go back?

The main narrative drive of New Diaspora is a web documentary series, consisting of short thematic episodes and video portraits that are available online for free.
During the first four months following our launch, we completed the mini docs Army of One, Morning Tales and Tunisia, which have already been hosted in ARTE Future, together with our Trailer. More recently, we have published The Three Hundreds, Marylebone Road and Reload Greece.

With five more web docs in post production, we are now moving on to other European destinations. Over the next two years, we intend to film stories across four continents, upload more than forty web documentaries, and eventually produce New Diaspora: The Movie. A feature length documentary film, which will unify multiple storylines into a common narrative, unfolding the great diversity in the experiences, actions and points of view of our characters.
At the same time, New Diaspora is a growing online community that actively participates in the creative process by sharing its experiences in the form of “open letters”, articles and other forms of creative user generated content. Affiliating with expatriate Greek organisations and media, academics, filmmakers, artists and bloggers, we are in the process of setting up a global network and content database that will hopefully manage to record this historical phenomenon in its entirety.

New Diaspora started as an innovative experiment that attracted the attention of both Greek and international press. Our Facebook page has reached 4.500 likes, our trailer has a combined total of over 85.000 views, while our Twitter and Linked In presence is also booming. We are now planning to expand to other social media platforms, as well as to the market of mobile apps.
